How to Increase Energy as a Busy Mom

May 8, 2023

Have you ever felt like you wish you could magically increase your energy so you could get it all done? As busy, ambitious moms we can often feel exhausted from all the tasks we try to complete, and we always seem to be short of resources like time, money, and energy. Without these resources, we get less done and feel more frazzled.

Today we are going to talk about how your energy is impacted by the actual task at hand. When you are asked to do something, add something to your list, or otherwise begin a task, it is going to impact your energy in one of three ways. How can you use these to actually hack your energy? Let’s dive in!

Haven’t left a review for the show yet? I would be ever so grateful to help me spread the word to more ambitious moms like you!

Monday Momentum: How to Increase Energy as a Busy Mom with Lori Oberbroeckling

So, this episode could be about some really important things to take care of your body and increase your energy like drinking more water, eating more protein and less sugar, getting more sleep (or taking that nap you desperately need), or moving your body more. All of those things will, without question, increase your actual available energy within your body. Do those things.

It could be about what I like to call “cultivating energy” which is understanding when you are most energized in a day, like being a morning lark or a night owl, and using that time to your advantage. You can certainly increase your energy by being aware of these daily cycles.

But that is not what I want to talk about today. I want to talk about how your energy is impacted by the actual task at hand.

When you are asked to do something, add something to your list, or otherwise begin a task, it is going to impact your energy in one of three ways:

  1. Energy Bleed
  2. Energy Block
  3. Energy Boost

We are going to talk about how each task, activity, project, assignment, goal, and literally everything on your to-do list is going to fall into one of these categories.

Energy Bleed

Tasks that are an energy bleed are those tasks that seem to suck your energy dry. These are not always tasks you dislike, but they take a lot of physical or mental energy to produce. You feel exhausted during or after the task. You need a break.

Maybe you do actually hate the task, so completing it just seems to take tons of energy. This could be something like reviewing personal or business finances or solving a difficult problem.

For me, this is complex contract and budget reviews. I don’t hate the task, but it takes a lot of mental energy and focus to ensure I don’t miss something important. I find I need to do something super easy after a task like that is complete. I want you to think right now about something that is an energy bleed for you.

Energy Block

An energy block is something that blocks energy movement. It doesn’t really take a lot of mental or physical energy–you don’t feel like you are bleeding out–but it doesn’t really provide energy either. For me, these are things like house chores. They don’t typically require a lot of energy, but I don’t love them. They don’t give me any sort of energy boost.

Now, I want you to think about something that is an energy block for you. You might find that is a lot of what you do each day, and that’s okay. We are just getting curious.

Energy Boost

Finally, let’s talk about an energy boost. What makes you super excited? What types of tasks make you feel motivated and productive and giddy? These tasks are energy boosts. An energy boost is a task, activity, or project that just seems to give you energy on its own.

You might feel like time stands still. You might feel a rush of adrenaline. You might feel super motivated and energized during the activity, and maybe even after it is complete.

Energy boosts for me are things like podcast interviews, meeting new people, brainstorming new ideas for my business, and coaching. Can you think of some things that are energy boosts for you?

How to Increase Energy as a Busy Mom

You thought about your energy bleeds, your energy blocks, and your energy boosts. Now what? Here is how we use this to increase energy on an ongoing basis.

When you are planning your days, your weeks, and your months, how can you limit the number of energy bleed tasks? Can you limit your schedule so you only have one per day? Can you delegate or outsources those tasks? Can you trade with someone?

Now, how can you spend more time on the energy boosts? Can you include something that boosts your energy every single day? Did you find that your energy boost activities are all bust lost from your calendar? How can you start to add those back in?

I would love for you to DM me on Instagram at Secrets of Supermom and tell me how this worked for you!

Alright, friend, let’s make it a Monday!
